A Chinese woman was caught by police after committing a fraud that stole 24 million yuan (4.8 billion won) from friends and family for five years, such as changing the locks of 80 apartments and forging and selling real estate evidence documents illegally.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) in Hong Kong on the 27th, Wang Wei, in his 30s in Gansu Province, north-central China, fell into considerable debt due to his luxurious lifestyle after marrying Chung in 2017.
In order to settle the debt, Chung borrowed 450,000 yuan (90 million won) as collateral for his father's house. However, Jeong had no idea that his wife had been planning sophisticated scams by targeting her family since 2019.
Wang learned that a local company was building a new house and forged real estate certificates and floor plans with the help of Photoshop. He also tricked lock makers into changing 80 apartment locks with counterfeit documents.
The lock craftsman, who asked not to be named, said that whenever Wang contacted him, he led him to the stairs in the building, far away from the surveillance camera.
"I didn't doubt it because he showed me documents proving that he owned the property," the father-in-law said.
Wang got all the keys to the changed lock and sold the apartment at an affordable price.
He sold apartments worth 1.1 million yuan (220 million won) to 42 relatives and friends for 600,000 yuan each.
In this way, he deceived victims such as his aunt, husband's sisters, and friends for five years and pocketed a total of 24 million yuan (4.8 billion won).
In addition, Wang regularly transferred money to Zhang, a male live streamer from Harbin, northeastern China.
After falling in love at first sight during a live streaming session in October 2022, the two have reportedly since developed into lovers. Zhang said Wang presented several luxury vehicles, including an SUV worth 1.4 million yuan.
In addition, Wang reportedly spent a total of more than 9.8 million yuan on Jang by buying real estate.
Wang was found to have spent hundreds of thousands of yuan not only on Jang but also on other male live streamers.
Even more shocking was the total ignorance of Wang's husband, Chung, and his family. Until the fraud was discovered, Jeong continued to pay off his wife's debts.
Wang was eventually caught by the police and the funds were recovered. A lawyer predicted that there is a possibility of confiscation of assets and life imprisonment, citing the large amount of fraud.
