Naver and Kakao have started supporting the recovery of large-scale forest fires that have been ignited nationwide. Donations are also accumulating in online fundraising boxes operated by Naver and Kakao. The relief money will be used to aid firefighting activities, improve living conditions, and purchase daily necessities for victims.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 27th, Naver donated 1 billion won to the National Disaster Relief Association to restore forest fire-affected areas.
Separately, Happy Bean, a social contribution platform, is conducting emergency fundraising activities with the National Disaster Relief Association, the Community Chest of Korea, and the Korean Red Cross. As of 1:20 p.m., the number of donors exceeded 245,000 and raised nearly 5.2 billion won.
Naver's map and weather service serve as a real-time wildfire information sharing window. When you access the Naver mobile application, a wildfire banner is exposed just below the search box. If you press it, you can check related news, breaking news, disaster texts, and how to act. More than 142,000 forest fire status, photos, and videos by region are currently posted on the real-time report tab.
The same goes for Kakao. Kakao will throw 1 billion won through the social contribution platform Kakao Together Value. It was created by Kakao donating 1,000 won when a user leaves one cheering comment. In addition, 1.34 million people have accumulated nearly KRW 6.2 billion in donations through comments or direct donations.
Kakao Together has opened an emergency fundraising page with the Community Chest of Love and the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association since the 23rd. All donations are delivered to forest fire-affected areas. In addition to purchasing food, daily necessities, and relief kits, it will also be used as funds for housing and livelihood of victims.
On the first screen of the next mobile application, a banner was introduced that could be connected to a page related to wildfires. You can also check real-time news, reports, and evolutionary work status on the news tab. On KakaoTalk, open chat rooms were held by region. In Kakao Maps, roads controlled by the aftermath of forest fires are reflected in the road search and the location of the shelter is indicated.
An official from Naver and Kakao said, "We have organized a fundraising campaign for victims who are suffering from sudden wildfires. We desperately hope that the site will be safe and that residents will be able to return to their daily lives quickly. "We have been raising emergency funds whenever national disasters such as heavy rain damage, earthquake damage, forest fire damage, and the COVID-19 pandemic occur. We will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities," he said.
