Kia held "The Kia Tasman Tech Day" on Sebit Island in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 27th to announce various technologies applied to its first authentic pickup truck "Tasman."

Kia introduced various on- and off-road technologies applied to Tasman through a presentation by a researcher in charge of developing Tasman on the same day, and organized a separate space to display related parts to enhance understanding of each technology. At this event, Kia explained the body design applied to implement pickup truck characteristics such as ▲ new pickup platform ▲ descent performance ▲ loading capacity with robustness and usability.

Tasman has a new pickup platform to implement the characteristics of authentic pickup, including excellent loading capacity, strong off-road performance, and high durability.

Tasman's platform has a body-on-frame structure in which two thick frames are connected by cross members to secure durability that matches the loading weight of up to 700kg and towing performance of 3,500kg. The body-on frame structure is characterized by putting a powertrain and a body on a ladder-shaped steel frame, which can withstand heavy loads better than ordinary passenger cars.

Kia applied two separate mount bushings and four integrated mount bushings to ensure stable vehicle behavior, connecting Tasman's chassis frame to the body. In addition, it has secured stable driving performance and high ground height by applying a high-mount double-wishbone type suspension that enhances durability and rust prevention to Tasman's front-wheel suspension.

Tasman's rear wheel suspension is equipped with a rigid axle leaf spring type suspension, providing comfortable rides to the level of existing sports utility vehicles (SUVs) when loading cargo, and allowing it to withstand load well when loading cargo.

Tasman has secured a high minimum ground height of 252mm (based on X-Pro models) by applying an optimized design for driving on the road, and key parts such as transmission, exhaust system parts, and fuel tanks are placed on the frame to prevent damage when driving on the road.

In addition, Kia has secured Doha performance to move 800mm deep water at a speed of 7km/h by placing the air intake at a height of 950mm inside the side fender for the first time and placing the direction of the intake in the opposite direction of the vehicle to prevent water from flowing into the engine through the intake port during Doha.

Based on its four-wheel drive (4WD) system, Tasman applies various off-road specifications to achieve the best off-road performance among Kia vehicles of all time. In addition, various technologies and toeing-specific functions were introduced to implement excellent off-road performance, including ▲ 2 speed ATC (Active Transfer Case) ▲ electronic differential gear lock (e-LD) ▲ dedicated terrain mode.

In addition, it introduced specifications developed to provide an optimal driving experience, such as R&H performance ▲ excellent NVH performance ▲ maximum-class second-row space for both ▲ on- and off-road driving stably.
