The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 27th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and DB Hi-tech to lead semiconductor research and technology commercialization at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Seoul.
The core of this cooperation is 'Moafab', a semiconductor public fab-linked platform. MOA Fab, which started in March last year, is a platform that supports researchers and companies to use high-tech equipment more easily in connection with six domestic semiconductor public fab institutions. The intention is to collect national semiconductor fab services operated by institutions and provide them as one-stop services.
Companies and researchers who do not have semiconductor fab facilities can also manufacture semiconductors they have researched by requesting them to MOA Fab. Currently, semiconductor public fabs are located at the Nano General Technology Institute, the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology.
The three companies provide MOA Fab with 12-inch advanced processing equipment and provide consulting on semiconductor technology and fab operation. Through this cooperation, general researchers will be able to easily access advanced research equipment, and small and medium-sized venture companies will also be able to increase their semiconductor design capabilities.
